Police knife drama

A CANNONS Creek man wielding two knives was arrested following a dramatic incident at Warburton police station on Friday.
The 28-year-old man was in a car driven by an older female when police say he became agitated and threatened the woman, who ran into the police station seeking refuge.
Detective Acting Sergeant Ian Marr of Yarra Ranges CIU said the incident happened in broad daylight, just after 11am.
He said the woman ran from the car and was ushered into the station by a senior constable on duty. The officer locked the doors as the man, armed with two knives, ran towards them and tried to force his way in by smashing a window. Detective Sgt Marr said the officer subdued the man with O C foam (capsicum), while an off-duty policeman who was in the area, rushed to help.
He said the man was restrained and taken to Yarra Junction police station.
The man was taken to Maroondah Hospital for treatment before being returned to police custody.
He was charged by Yarra Ranges CIU with attempted burglary, attempted assault, attempted aggravated burglary, recklessly causing injury, serious assault on police and criminal damage.
The man appeared before the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Monday in a filing hearing.
