A GROUP of students were last month recognised for their outstanding contribution to their local community.
Holt MP Anthony Byrne presented 41 students with Holt Community Spirit and Leadership Awards at the Casey council chambers.
More than 250 people attended the awards, including parents and teachers who nominated them.
One of the award recipients helped organise a fundraiser for a fellow student to gain essential walking equipment, raising $13,000.
Mr Byrne said there were many other stories of achievement.
“The testimonials from the schools nominating their students were outstanding and tell of the great work done by our kids and the strong sense of community spirit that they have,” Mr Byrne said.
“These awards give me the chance to say thanks to these students on behalf of the community and to let them know how proud we are of them,” Mr Byrne said.
