LYNBROOK residents are celebrating the opening of their long-awaited post office.
Years of campaigning has paid off for Lynbrook residents and community leaders, when the town’s first post office opened in Lynbrook Village on 16 December.
The service is another “must-have” that has been ticked off for the Lynbrook and nearby Lyndhurst community, which has rapidly and steadily grown during the past few years.
Licensees of the post office, brothers Keith and Rod Norman, said the response from locals had been positive so far, averaging about 200 customers each day.
They believe that many residents were still not aware the post office was open.
A letter box drop will take place soon to inform Lynbrook and Lyndhurst residents that the post office is open for business.
Keith said many customers had commented that they no longer had to travel to Hampton Park to visit a post office. Casey councillor Amanda Stapledon said she was excited to see the post office open, and added it was a great service for the community.
“It is a great Christmas present for the locals,” Cr Stapledon said.
“I’m so thrilled. It’s something they can’t do without.”
Importantly, the post office would keep people local, Cr Stapledon said.
Keith and Rod have eight years’ experience in Australia Post, and have taken out two national awards for their work.
“We want to put Lynbrook on the map as the best post office in the country,” Keith said.
Lynbrook Residents’ Association president Jason Wood said the new post office meant people could now walk a few hundred metres to access the service, instead of getting in a car and travelling to another town.
Mr Wood said the next step would be to get a post office box installed at Lyndhurst.
