Waste site anger

COMMUNITY anger is increasing about a proposed hazardous waste facility at Lyndhurst.
SITA Environmental Solutions has applied to build a new soil treatment facility at Lyndhurst, requesting to include category A waste, which includes polychlorinated biphenyls.
Lotte Dawes said she was angered by the proposal, and urged people to put in a submission before the closing date on 18 January.
“It is important that a 20B conference is held to enable the community to hear all aspects of this new proposal and be given an opportunity of asking questions on the night,” Ms Dawes said.
She said about 20,000 people lived and worked within the 2km buffer surrounding the tip.
“The establishment of new sites and facilities to safely manage Victoria’s hazardous waste is essential. But not in an area that would adversely affect the people living and working within the 2km buffer,” she said.
We request people to write in to the EPA and the Department of Planning and Community Development (DPCD) opposing this hazardous treatment facility.”
