Safety first

CASEY Council is encouraging parents to check its website for tips on preventing their children suffering unintentional injuries.
With unintentional injury the leading cause of child death, the council launched SafeStart Child Safety Kits last year.
Casey mayor Shar Balmes said the statistics on hospital visits through unintentional injuries were worrying.
“Parents and families are able to visit the City of Casey website to view and download a range of information sheets about safety including home safety, car and road safety and general child safety,” Cr Balmes said.
Some examples of products that can improve safety in the home are smoke alarms, first aid kits, door and stove barriers, lockable cabinets and power point covers.
