A COALITION Government will provide $29 million to support communities in fighting local crime, if elected.
Under the Liberal Party’s crime prevention program, all Victorian councils will be eligible to apply for funding for graffiti removal and prevention, public safety initiatives and community proposals to prevent and reduce crime.
“The Coalition’s $29 million Community Crime Prevention Program will fund communities in their fight against violence in Victoria,” Liberal Leader Ted Baillieu said.
Under the program, communities will be encouraged to find local crime prevention solutions that work in their neighbourhoods, Mr Baillieu said.
Shadow Minister for Crime Prevention Andrew McIntosh said local councils, schools, community support services and other community leaders will be encouraged to apply for grants.
“Applicants will be encouraged to develop proposals and apply for grants that will be delivered in four annual funding rounds,” Mr McIntosh said.
The crime prevention program will include a Public Safety Infrastructure fund, a Community Safety Fund and a zero-tolerance to graffiti fund.
