A SLADEN Street merger mess is easily fixed, says a Cranbourne trader.
Silvio Marinelli overlooks the merger from his office at Highview Accounting, and said he hears between three and five near misses every day at the merger at the petrol station on Sladen Street near Codrington Street.
“You’ve got traffic turning out from the two lanes going into one, plus the people coming out of the service station going into one lane. There’s effectively three lanes going into one, which just doesn’t work,” Mr Marinelli said.
“There’s room to make two lanes on the space they’ve got.”
Casey council has met VicRoads representatives to discuss the traffic concerns on Sladen Street, but said VicRoads had no current plans to upgrade it.
Cranbourne Independent candidate and Casey councillor Amanda Stapledon said only 400 metres of road between High Street and Cranbourne Narre Warren Road needed to be upgraded.
“VicRoads have recognised the issues that exist there however, they have not committed to any works at this time,” Ms Stapledon said.
“The road is duplicated from High Street to Codrington St and then merges sharply causing frequent near misses and accidents.”
Ms Stapledon also agreed there was plenty of room to continue the duplication of Sladen Street and said it would require little planning and effort.
“The road is the same road that the current MP’s office resides on however, it has not been fixed and there are no known plans to do so.”
Cranbourne MP Jude Perera said if he was re-elected, he would lobby for further upgrades along Sladen Street and Berwick Cranbourne Road.
