They’re skate mates

CHRISTMAS came early for keen skaters who have waited 18 months for the reopening of Cranbourne’s iconic skate park.
After a $1.2 million refurbishment, The Shed reopened to the public on the weekend.
New features at The Shed include a roof over the entire park, a vert ramp, bowl, street areas, foam pit and resi ramp.
Casey deputy mayor Shar Balmes has hailed The Shed as the biggest and best skate park in the southern hemisphere.
“The Shed has undergone an amazing transformation since it originally opened in 1993 and is now set to become Australia’s best skate park catering for skate, BMX, in-line and scooters.”
At the official opening on Friday, professional Australian skaters showed off the new ramps with a few lucky locals who won a competition to try out the new facility.
The council called on the advice from international skaters when designing the new-look venue.
“In developing The Shed, council’s vision was to build a facility for action sports that offers an exciting, safe and good vale venue for all ability levels of participants in skate, BMX, in-line and scooters,” Cr Balmes said.
Users of all abilities are welcome at The Shed, with each day split into three-hour sessions. General session prices are $7.50 for three hours.
