Facelift for foreshore

By Bridget Brady
TOORADIN has been promised a swift upgrade of the foreshore car park if the Liberal Party wins the State Election this month.
But the erosion of the foreshore remains an unresolved issue.
Hastings MP Neale Burgess last week announced a Coalition Government would commit $360,000 to upgrade the car park, which has become increasingly popular for those accessing Western Port.
If the project goes ahead, the carpark will be resurfaced to improve the safety as well as make it easier to use.
Mr Burgess said it was important for the works to be carried out quickly and with minimal disruption.
He congratulated the Tooradin Foreshore Committee of Management and Tooradin Commerce Committee for their dedication to their town.
While last week’s announcement was positive news for the town, Tooradin Foreshore Committee of Management secretary Ross Wilkie said the group had tried for some time to secure funding to save the foreshore from further erosion.
“It’s eroding away the access to the boat ramp and the jetty, which is the issue for us,” Mr Wilkie said.
A spokeswoman for the Department of Sustainability and Environment (DSE) said it was unable to comment on the matter during the caretaker government.
Mr Burgess said he looked forward to resolving other issues with Tooradin residents, including the erosion of the foreshore.
