Bystanders help

BYSTANDERS freed an 18-year-old man from his car when it landed on its roof during a collision in Tooradin on Monday.
The bystanders came to the rescue of the man when two cars collided at the intersection of Bayview Road and the South Gippsland Highway about 4pm.
Tooradin CFA captain David Bullman said a bystander assisting in an emergency was a “natural reaction” and people wanted to do what they could to help out.
Intensive care paramedic Jon Wright said one of the cars was extensively damaged when they arrived at the scene.
‘There was at least half a metre cabin intrusion on the passenger side so it was fortunate that there wasn’t anyone sitting there,” Mr Wright said.
The 18-year-old was flown to the Royal Melbourne Hospital in a serious condition.
Mr Wright said the man was in severe pain and had suspected pelvic and abdominal injuries and pain to his lower back.
The driver of the other car did not require hospital treatment.
