CASEY police carried out another successful roadblock last week, with sheriffs executing more than $140,000 worth of warrants. More than 20 police were involved in the latest instalment of Operation CARE in Cranbourne West last Wednesday.
Police spent four hours at the road block, and picked up motorists for a range of offences including three drink drivers, four unlicensed drivers, six motorists who were using a mobile phone while driving, seven unregistered vehicles, five people failing to display P-plates and five speeders.
Sheriffs were also on hand to carry out checks, executing an impressive 418 warrants on 39 defendants for a total of $140,695. One car was clamped during the road block.
Leading Senior Constable Allen Inderwisch said police had a high strike rate with Operation CARE.
“It’s actually quite disappointing that we’ve been running this for about two years and we’re still getting these sorts of results,” he said.
Leading Sen Const Inderwisch said motorists should be aware they don’t just face a breath test at these road blocks, but that their vehicles may also be checked by sheriffs.
