Climate change well covered

CASEY Council has recently developed a booklet to help tackle climate change in the area.
The booklet includes information on how the council is taking action to address the projected impacts of climate change, as well as suggestions on what residents can do at the local level.
The council is now seeking feedback on the booklet and is encouraging residents to read it and provide feedback via an online survey.
Scientific research indicates that the projected impacts of climate change include altered rainfall patterns, reduced availability of water and an increase in the frequency of severe weather events, and Casey is not immune to these effects.
A survey of Casey residents showed a high degree of awareness of climate change and its impacts.
City of Casey mayor Lorraine Wreford said the survey, conducted earlier this year, showed that 81 per cent of Casey residents surveyed believe that the earth’s climate is changing and the main areas of concern are the rising cost of living, increased temperatures and less rainfall and water.
“The City of Casey is working closely with other councils in the region through the South East Councils Climate Change Alliance (SECCCA) to explore and address climate change and its associated impacts, including helping the community,” she said.
“While the council is preparing for the future of our municipality, it’s important to remember that there are little things that everyone can do in their daily lives to reduce the effects of climate change,” she said.
