Busy week in lead-up to Cup

By Bridget Cook
THE week leading up to the TAB Cranbourne Cup is full of events to promote and celebrate the day, the sponsors and the Spring Racing Carnival.
The events will kick of with the inaugural Cranbourne Cup Business Breakfast, then the TAB Cranbourne Cup Golf Day and finally the TAB Cranbourne Cup Calcutta.
• Cranbourne Cup Business Breakfast: On Tuesday 5 October, from 7.15am, The Cranbourne Turf Club, in conjunction with Chandler Macleod will host the inaugural Cranbourne Cup Business Breakfast.
Those who attend will get the chance to watch Cranbourne Cup hopefuls in their final hit-out, as they train on the course proper at Cranbourne Racing Centre.
A panel of Richmond Champions, arguably the best centre line in VFL/AFL history Francis Bourke, Billy Barrot and Dick Clay, will reminisce about the glory days of Punt Road.
Ex-Richmond coach Terry Wallace will host the break-fast. There are only 150 tickets available. Cost per ticket is $20, or $10 for Casey Business Forum affiliates, which includes breakfast, tea and coffee. Bookings are essential, call the club on 5996 1300.
• TAB Cranbourne Cup Golf Day: On Wednesday 6 October the Cranbourne Turf Club will host the TAB Cranbourne Cup Golf Day. This is a corporate golf day for TAB Cranbourne Cup Day sponsors and those in the industry held at Settlers Run Golf and Country Club. The event is held annually.
• TAB Cranbourne Cup Calcutta: The Calcutta is a highlight of the club’s calendar and is always a popular night. The event, to be held on Friday 8 October from 6.30pm, will be hosted by Dave Whalen and SEN and TVN’s Dr. Turf will be the guest on the night.
Dr. Turf will preview every runner of the 2010 TAB BIG6 Cranbourne Cup field and will divulge how many of them are capable of going on to win the $1,000,000 Luxbet.com Bonus, six days after the Cup.
Mr Whalen will conclude a great night with a live solo acoustic performance. Cost per ticket is $85, which includes a three-course meal and drinks. Every table is guaranteed a horse in the Calcutta. For bookings phone 5996 1300.
