NOMINATIONS are open for the 2011 Australia Day Study Tour awards.
Ten young people who attend school, live or work in the City of Casey will be chosen for a number of experiences to learn about the three tiers of government in Australia.
It includes a trip to Parliament House in Canberra, a day in Melbourne to tour parliament and meet local politicians, and attendance at City of Casey council functions including a council meeting.
Casey mayor Lorraine Wreford said the council was pleased to provide such an outstanding program for young people. “I strongly encourage teachers and employers to nominate a young person they think is worthy of being recognised and rewarded for their interest in government, politics, law or a related field and give them the chance to take part in this life-changing experience,” Cr Wreford said.
To take part, applicants must be in Year 11 in 2011 or the equivalent age of 16 years by 30 April next year.
Nomination forms can be obtained from the council’s website at www.casey.vic.gov.au/insideinfo and must be returned to the council’s youth programs co-ordinator at P.O. Box 1000, Narre Warren, 3805.
Applications close Friday 26 November.
