A MOTHER of two is urging school students not to take the shortcut home after her daughter stumbled upon five syringes in Cranbourne.
Charlene Thow said she was “disgusted” when her 13-year-old daughter found the syringes on a vacant block at the back of Casey Central while walking to school in Cranbourne North.
“I had goosebumps all over. I felt like I was going to be sick. I really couldn’t believe there were syringes on the ground there,” Ms Thow said.
“They had the needles in, the whole lot. It was disgusting.”
Ms Thow contacted Casey Council and they promptly removed the syringes, which were near The Strand.
Ms Thow said she wanted her daughter to take a different route home, and would like to discourage other students from cutting across The Strand because she didn’t’ believe it was safe.
“I don’t think the kids should be walking through there at all. Please stick to the road,” she said.
Ms Thow said she was aware drugs could be a problem in the area, but was surprised to find such blatant evidence near a school and childcare centre.
Casey has a dedicated 24-hour syringe disposal service for the collection and disposal of syringes from public places.
If anyone sees a syringe contact Casey council on 9705 5200 to arrange for it to be safely removed and disposed of.
