Street barbie catches on

THE barbies are back.
Casey residents are encouraged to apply to have Casey Council provide a free barbecue in their street in the warmer months.
The barbecues were a big hit last season, and gave the opportunity for neighbours to meet and get to know one another.
The council provides all the food, tools and even council officers to help out with the barbecue.
Casey mayor Lorraine Wreford said the barbecues were a simple, yet informal way of brining the neighbourhood together.
“The number of residents applying to host a free neighbourhood BBQ is growing each year so this shows how popular this program is as a way of meeting and getting to know your neighbours,” Cr Wreford said.
“It’s great to hear that some of the residents involved are planning to organise a further Christmas catch-up for their street as a result of meeting at the recent neighbourhood BBQs.”
