A PLAYGROUP for Pacific Island children was launched at the Cranbourne Library last week.
With literacy as a priority, the group launched a book and CD highlighting the culture and songs of the Pacific Islands.
It was funded through the Communities for Children grant and with the help of staff at the library.
They also had the opportunity to record the audio at Casey Radio.
Casey councillor Geoff Ablett said it was important that children understood their roots in a multicultural society.
“It’s such a warm, friendly and supportive group.
“They really care for each other,” Cr Ablett said.
The group meet at the Mission Australia Childcare Centre in Cranbourne each Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 9.30am to midday.
Cr Ablett said he had attended church services with the Pacific Islanders at the Narre Warren South P-12 School.
“It is fantastic that these families are playing such a major role in shaping the future of all our Pacific Island friends.”
