Beef up rail security call

By Bridget Brady
A CRANBOURNE man is calling for greater security at the Cranbourne railway station after his car got broken into twice in three weeks.
Paul Magsano’s wife parks the car at the station from 7am each day as she commutes to work, but has returned twice to find damage, including a smashed window on one occasion and a tampered key lock.
Nothing has been stolen from the car during the incidents, but Mr Magsano believes someone has tried to steal the car as the ignition had been interfered with.
“It’s very inconvenient, and scary,” Mr Magsano said.
He said more security and police presence was needed at the station.
“It’s not safe. They need to put more cameras there.”
Casey CIU said police units regularly patrolled the station from Monday to Friday.
Statistics revealed there was one reported offence at the station in August and one in September from different vehicles.
Merinda Park Railway Station had two reported incidents in May and June.
The State Government did not comment before the News went to print.
