Track’s on run

THE regional athletics centre is off and racing at Casey Fields, and is due to be finished in February.
The centre will include an international standard track, lighting for night competition and undercover seating for 1000 people.
A regional playground is also taking shape as part of the Casey Fields Development Project. Casey council obtained about $9 million from the Federal Government for the project, which recently won a national award for innovation recently.
The sub-base has been prepared for the athletics track and seating is in place for the grandstand.
Casey’s manager of parks and reserves Trevor Griffin said the play-space should be finished by the end of the month.
“The first two pieces of equipment have been installed, including a birds nest swing and a 12 metre slide on the adventure hill,” Mr Griffin said.
Casey mayor Lorraine Wreford said the playground would attract visitors from across the municipality.
“We are also looking forward to an art piece from public artist Mother’s Art that is due for completion in early December and will sit outside the main entrance to the athletics complex,” Cr Wreford said.
