Long look at books

TO CELEBRATE Book Week, the News asked some local bookworms about their love for reading.
Held from 21 to 27 August, Book Week celebrates its 65th year in 2010 with the theme ‘across the story bridge’.
From a prep student to a fireman, Casey book lovers share some of their favourite reads.

Elva Livett, 80, from Blue Hills Residences in Cranbourne:
What are you reading at the moment?
The authors Maeve Binchy and Joanna Trollop. But I always have four or five books out from the library all the time.
What is your favourite book?
The Robe by Lloyd Douglas. It’s a story linked to The Bible but also fiction. It just makes you think and it’s really good. I enjoy it.
What do you love about reading?
It’s better than telly. It takes you into other people’s lives and other worlds. It gives you a feeling for other people.

What are you reading at the moment?
The sequel to ‘The Secret’ which is ‘The Power’ by Rhonda Byrne.
I have just finished Ghost Child by Caroline Overington.
What is your favourite book?
Guernsey Literary Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Anne Shaffer.
What do you love about reading?
What I love about reading is to be taken to another place, time or event. And to view the life through other people’s lives. I like to read biographies as well as fiction.

What are you reading at the moment?
As you do – Richard Hammond.
What is your favourite book?
Flying Colours – C.S. Forester.
What do you love about reading?
Entering the individual ‘World’ of the author.

Tooradin Primary School prep student Laura:
What are you reading at the moment?
Sleeping Beauty.
What is your favourite book?
Cinderella. Because we read the story at school and had a Cinderella ball. Everybody dressed up and pretended to be someone special, I dressed up in my ballerina princess dress. It was a lot of fun.
What do you love about reading?
I like to read because I can imagine being different characters and going to different places. Some stories make me laugh.

What are you reading at the moment?
A book by Lauren Conrad called LA Candy.
What is your favourite book?
Dear John.
What do you love about reading?
The fantasy world of it.
