A piece of vital equipment donated to the Cranbourne Fire Brigade will help save lives.
Locating people trapped in a house fire – and navigating the source of a fire – will be made easier for firefighters, thanks to a donation of a thermal camera from the Good Guys Cranbourne.
Fire officer on duty at the Cranbourne Fire Brigade Tom Hoppner said the camera detected heat and would also aid in finding hot spots.
“When vital seconds count, it could be the difference between life and death,” Mr Hoppner said.
“It’s an invaluable piece of equipment.”
Firefighter Tim Lancaster said brigade members were overwhelmed by the generous donation.
“The Thermal Imaging Camera enables firefighters to see through smoke, making it an invaluable tool on the fire ground,” Mr Lancaster said.
“The camera is vital in so many instances; locating trapped persons in a house fire, identifying hotspots and checking for hidden fires in walls and roofs. It helps locate ventilation points and identifies unsafe and dangerous areas for our firefighters.”
Proprietor of the Good Guys in Cranbourne, Frank Butera, said he was delighted to assist the brigade.
“Fire brigades are integral to every community and equipment such as this is – particularly due to recent fire related events in Victoria – more important than ever before,” he said.
