Chantelle finds frogs in the pond

By Bridget Cook
CRANBOURNE West Primary School is jumping for joy following news that new residential community Alarah will fund an interactive frog pond for the students.
The project will allow students to apply their science and environmental education in a hands-on forum.
Alarah’s developer Wolfdene announced that it would use existing local and industry contacts to begin raising the funds needed and will then match each donation and use its own landscape architect to construct the $28,000 pond.
To celebrate the announcement, Cranbourne West Primary School students played around with some green tree frogs last week in preparation for their own frog pond next year.
Cranbourne West Primary School Principal Andrew Bergmeier said without Alarah’s commitment and support the frog pond initiative would still be a distant pipe-dream for the school.
“This year we have focused on sustainability as a key theme in the students’ curriculum,” he said.
“The frog pond was conceived because frogs are the primary indicators of healthy environments – this idea has fascinated the staff and students so we decided to create our own frog pond and use it to ensure our school environment remains healthy.”
