Don’t stall,

CANCER Council Victoria is calling for 35 Casey residents to volunteer to help in the fight against cancer.
Volunteers are needed to help run four stalls around Casey on Daffodil Day, Friday 27 August.
Cancer Council spokeswoman Bree Attwood said 350 volunteer stalls will operate around Victoria for its signature event, which is aiming to raise $9 million nationally this year
“If you think the one in two who gets cancer is one too many, then please volunteer for Daffodil Day,” Ms Attwood said.
“Raising funds is vital if we are to change the statistics.”
Ms Attwood said about 9500 Australians will hear the words ‘you have cancer’ in August alone.
“The statistics are confronting, but there is reason to hope, and we are making progress,” she said.
“For example, the survival rate for many common cancers has increased by more than 30 per cent in the past two decades.
“Daffodil Day gives hope for a brighter, cancer-free future for ourselves, and those we love.”
All funds raised by Daffodil Day enable lifesaving research, prevention programs to reduce the risk of cancer and support services for people affected by cancer.
“We are grateful for the support shown by Casey residents in the past and hope the local community will come out in force again this year,” she said.
A range of daffodil merchandise will be available for purchase throughout August at participating retailers across Victoria and at train stations, street stalls and shopping centres on Daffodil Day.
Businesses can also register to display a Daffodil Day merchandise box.
