A CRANBOURNE North resident is calling for a traffic island to be installed near his home after a second car ploughed through his bedroom window in July.
John Jones said a traffic island was needed at the T-intersection of Waverley Park Drive and Lawless Drive, Cranbourne North, to prevent the same thing happening again.
Mr Jones said drivers also needed to take more care and stop treating the road as a “race track”.
Casey councillor Amanda Stapledon raised the issue as urgent business at last week’s council meeting.
On Tuesday 13 July, a car crashed through the bedroom window of Mr Jones’ home just after 8.30pm.
Mr Jones’ wife and children were home at the time, but no-one was hurt.
Mr Jones said a car also crashed into the side of his property about six years ago, narrowly missing the gas meter.
“Next time it could be fatal,” Mr Jones said.
Mr Jones said that while a traffic island was needed, drivers also need to slow down around the area.
“A traffic island would slow people down when having to take the turn as we seem to have a lot of drivers who think they are on a race track,” Mr Jones said.
“Drivers just need to take more care, slow down and stop being in such a rush.”
Cr Stapledon said the council had resolved to investigate the traffic conditions and to report on an option to address the concerning issue as a matter of urgency.
“It is a basic right to feel safe in one’s home,” she said.
“No one anticipates a car driving through a bedroom or living room.
“It is imperative that the Jones family feel safe in their home and are sure that the dangerous traffic conditions have been addressed.”
