MARLEEN Ling is the new president of the Inner Wheel Club of Cranbourne.
At the club’s 18th annual changeover on Monday night, Ms Ling said one of her aims for the year was to help promote quality of life for the elderly in nursing homes.
“Other countries don’t have the same support for their citizens,” she said.
Outgoing president Debbie Kypraios reflected on a happy and productive year for the club.
She said members heard from many inspiration speakers throughout the year, including a Black Saturday bushfire survivor.
The club raised $1400 from a sausage sizzle, helped raise money and awareness about Cord Blood research and provided donations for the Salvation Army Christmas Appeal.
Ms Kypraios said the highlight of the year was a fashion expo featuring young up and coming Melbourne designer Christiana Livaditis, who had designs on show and spoke about her journey in the fashion world.
The club raised $2500 from the expo.
“It was a fantastic day,” she said.
Ms Kypraios thanked her committee for their friendship and support during her year as president.
“It has been a wonderful and rewarding experience for me,” she said.
The theme for the 2010/11 year is commit with conviction, compassion and consistency.
The senior vice-president for 2010/11 is Therese Schreurs, while Jannene Madden is secretary.
Other position holders are Merna Stella (treasurer), Marie Corrigan (International officer), Annette Allen (club correspondent), Patsy Pinxt (historian), Yvonne Bell (social convenor) with the committee members being Val Batchelor and Lorraine Borthwick.
