Vets get the word out

VIETNAM veterans are encouraged to attend a welfare information session in Frankston next week.
The Victorian Branch of the Vietnam Veterans Association of Australia (VVAA) is hosting a series of information sessions around the state.
VVAA spokesman John Ockwell said the information session on 6 July would also benefit older veterans, peacemakers, peacekeepers and younger veterans.
“We extend an invitation for all to attend these very important information sessions, irrespective of whether they are members of our association or not,” Mr Ockwell said.
The Frankston VVAA sub-branch will hose the information session in conjunction with the Mornington Peninsula VVAA sub-branch. Frankston president Martin Rudelbach said the welfare information sessions had become even more important since last year’s bushfires, when the association found some veterans were not prepared for fires.
Peninsula president Kevin Mawdsley said there were also veteran families struggling with the long-term effects of drought and tight economic times. The meeting starts at 11am at the Frankston RSL, 183 Cranbourne Road, Frankston. A light lunch will be provided.
