Future on the block

THE Pearcedale community is rallying behind its footy club to help replace stolen money that was raised for an injured player.
Donations have flooded in for this weekend’s auction night, which the club has named Get A Better Future Together.
Pearcedale Football Club secretary and treasurer Karen Halket said players and members of the club were left disheartened last month after money was stolen from a safe in the clubrooms. The money had been raised for one of their senior players who suffered a knee injury this year and may not play again.
As word of the auction night spread, donations poured in.
“It’s become a community effort really,” Ms Halket said.
“It’s just been amazing, people have been really kind.”
Some of the items donated include a ride-on mower, labour for a driveway, timber and labour to build a pergola, a spa bath and plumbing to install it, jewellery, babysitting, house cleaning, and meal vouchers.
Money raised from the auction night on Saturday night will also go towards gym equipment for the club to help injured players recuperate. Ms Halket said there had been a number of knee injuries this year.
The club was also saddened by the death of one of its players and treasurer Shaughn O’Connor, who died from skin cancer last year.
Ms Halket said the recent string of events prompted the name of the auction night so the club could work on getting a better future.
“We’re all pulling together to focus on the positive.”
The auction night will be held on 3 July at 6.30pm for a 7pm start. Cost is $30. Call Karen for donations or tickets on 0407 853 595.
