Senior Sergeant Jayden takes off in squadron

By Bridget Brady
JAYDEN Boyde was inspired to join the Air League after being wowed by an air show when he was nine years old.
And the Cranbourne Air League Squadron member came one step closer to his dream of becoming an aerobatics instructor when he was promoted to senior sergeant recently- the highest rank held in Victoria by any cadet.
Jayden, 17, said he was honoured to be promoted.
“It was very overwhelming because I didn’t expect it,” Jayden said.
The Year 12 student said he looked forward to playing more of a leading role with the cadets at the Cranbourne Air League.
“I’ve met some great friends through it.”
Officer Commanding David Boyde (Jayden’s father) has encouraged any interested young people to visit the Cranbourne squadron during the school holidays and see what the air league is all about.
The Cranbourne Air League meets at the tennis club at Grant Street, and new members are welcome.
Leadership skills, citizenship and respect were some of the things promoted through the air league, Mr Boyde said.
Mr Boyde said he hoped the air league would be able to find a new home in the future to allow more room for drills and storage.
Anyone interested can attend on 30 June and 7 July from 7pm to 9pm.
