Service honour- At an Australian Defence Medal presentation at the Cranbourne RSL on Tuesday a

TWO Cranbourne men were honoured for their service to the Australian Defence Force on Tuesday.
Holt MP Anthony Byrne joined members of the Dandenong-Cranbourne RSL to present an Australian Defence Medal each to Christopher Phillips and William Shepheard.
Mr Shepheard spent eight years in the army, starting in the Citizens’ Military Forces, and Mr Phillips spent nine years in the navy.
Mr Shepheard said it was great to be recognised and acknowledged and defence service personnel deserved more recognition for their efforts.
Mr Byrne said members of the defence forces often contributed in unseen and unrecognised ways.
“It’s an honour on behalf of the community to express our gratitude for the commitment and sacrifice of Australian Defence Force members,” Mr Byrne said.
“This medal recognises the service of members of the Australian Defence Force, past and present, who make a significant contribution to our nation.”
The medal is awarded to regular and reserve force members who have completed their initial enlistment period of four years service since World War II.
