THE City of Casey enjoyed a wetter than average autumn, recording some of the highest rainfall in the south-east.
Cranbourne received the most in the area, with 245mm falling, while Berwick received 232mm, Lyndhurst 223mm and Hampton Park 204mm.
The figures exceeded last year’s autumn falls, by up to 86mm in Lyndhurst.
The highest rainfall across Melbourne was recorded in Officer, with 268mm.
Manager of water supply at Melbourne Water, John Woodland, said storages had started the winter at their highest levels since 2006, after the best autumn since the drought began in 1997.
“It’s normal to see dam levels decline during autumn, but the drop to 39 billion litres this year was less than half of the average of 94 billion litres we’ve seen since the drought began,” he said.
“Households were able to let mother nature do the watering for them, and this showed in the continued slashing of water use by Melburnians.
