PEDESTRIANS and cyclists will find it easier to get around Cranbourne after the completion of a streetscape project.
The $582,750 project included improvements along South Gippsland Highway service road, Lyall Street and New Holland Drive to make it safer and more accessible for people to access the Cranbourne town centre and Cranbourne complex.
Cranbourne MP Jude Perera said the project, called Linking Cranbourne Town Centre to the Community, would encourage more people to choose sustainable transport options such as walking and riding.
“The project includes two major links for pedestrians and cyclists, including a north-south link on South Gippsland Highway service road and an east-west link between High Street and Cranbourne Activity Centre,” Mr Perera said.
Other features of the project include pedestrian traffic signals on the South Gippsland Highway at the Cranbourne Railway Station, a pedestrian shelter and crossing at Station and Arundel streets, improved hardstand area, shelter and bike rails at the regional bus interchange on Lyall Street and a shared path along the south side of New Holland Drive, linking to an existing shared path on Berwick-Cranbourne Road.
The project was funded by the State Government’s TravelSmart and Local Area Access Program grants and the City of Casey.
