THERE is room for more to play at Cranbourne North.
Woodbine Road Playgroup has extended a warm welcome to parents and children to join their playgroup, with vacancies in their morning sessions.
President Megan Shaw said an extra afternoon session could also be introduced.
Ms Shaw said she would welcome more numbers at the Cranbourne North playgroup as she was sure families in the growing area would be looking for playgroups to send their children.
“You hear about how we’re the fastest growing area so it would be good to see more,” she said.
Joining a playgroup was especially beneficial for those who were new to the area, she said.
“I was new to the area when I first started going about three years ago. I’ve made life long friends here now.”
Playgroup offered support for parents, carers or grandparents who may feel isolated or alone, Ms Shaw said.
“It’s good to have that support. We talk about any issues we might be having with the kids. Basically a lot of people are going through the same thing and it’s nice just to have some space while the kids can play together,” Ms Shaw said.
Casey councillor Amanda Stapledon said the playgroup was in an ideal location next to the Maternal and Child Health Centre and local pre school.
“The Woodbine Road Playgroup offers an opportunity for young parents, both male and female, and carers to enhance their child’s social and skill development through play. It also offers an opportunity for parents and carers to socialise, network and share information, minimising their isolation and contributing to building strong and resilient families,” Cr Stapledon said.
Ms Shaw said playgroup provided important social and developmental opportunities for children.
“It’s great for them to develop those key behaviours like sharing, how to communicate with other children and getting along.”
Ms Shaw said the playgroup is currently applying for grants for a new shade and outdoor play equipment.
Anyone interesting in joining the playgroup can call Heike on 9705 2258.
