Students cast a spell

YOUNG spelling whiz kids from across Casey will soon compete in a Gippspell competition zone final.
Primary and secondary students from years five to eight will exhibit their spelling prowess during the Casey zone final of the Gippspell competition on 10 August.
Kilberry Valley Primary School in Hampton Park will host the zone final. Gifted and talented co-ordinator at the school, Toni Arfaras, said students thoroughly enjoyed taking part and watching the competition.
“It’s great to see their enthusiasm for it,” she said.
“At our school, we have a TV studio and we recorded our school finals and then televise it for al the kids to watch and they thought it was fantastic.”
Ms Arfaras said schools were still welcome to enter their students in the zone final, with two students allowed per year level.
“It is open to both private and public schools, and it’s up to each school to hold their own final to find their participants.”
It costs a school $20 to enter the competition. Registration closes 18 June.
The winners will then compete at a provincial final in Traralgon.
