State blames Casey

THE State Government has accused Casey Council of running a political campaign rather than focusing efforts on the Brookland Greens clean-up.
A government spokesman said Casey had failed to present a credible business case to the government as to why taxpayer money should be used to assist with the clean-up costs.
“The community expect Casey to stop playing politics and to do their job, cleaning up this site,” the spokesman said.
Casey Council had treated families with disdain for the past two years, rather than getting the job done in the aftermath of the methane gas leaks at Brookland Greens, he said.
“Now six councillors- two of which are running for the Liberal Party in this year’s state election – have voted in favour of using rates to run a political campaign.
“This council has a responsibility to govern for the residents that pay their rates, not to waste this money on trying to get two councillors in state parliament.”
