Thanks for the bunch

THEY spend their spare time helping others.
City of Casey volunteers were given a round of applause on Friday night to thank them for their hard work.
Volunteers from all walks of life came together to celebrate the 2010 Casey Volunteer Awards held at the Balla Balla Centre in Cranbourne East.
Mayor Lorraine Wreford said the awards were an opportunity to acknowledge the vital contribution of volunteers to the local community.
“These are the people who give up their personal time and energy to make things happen all around the municipality,” she said.
Sixty-seven nominations were received by the council and more than 260 people attended the ceremony.
The Casey Volunteer Group Award 2010 –went to The Warren Opportunity Shop Inc.
They provided over $30,000 in financial support to community groups and services in the City of Casey.
The Casey Volunteer Organisation Award 2010 went to Christians Helping in Primary Schools (CHIPS).
CHIPS is a group of 150 volunteers who assist more than 72 schools in Casey with a school-based mentoring program.
The Casey Young Volunteer Award 2010 went to Cara Peake.
This Lyndhurst Secondary College student has spent 16 hours a week volunteering with the St John Ambulance Service for the past six years.
The Casey Volunteering Pair Award 2010 went to Ann and Frits Houben.
Ann and Frits are members of the Cranbourne Arthritis Group and play an integral role to the group’s operation.
There were also four individual winners in the Casey Volunteer Award 2010 category.
They include Karen Bundock from the CFA, Palliative Care volunteer Wendy Crisp, Lions Club member Andrew McMahon and Russell Owen who is best known for his work with the Berwick Squadron of the Australian Air League.
