Look afteryour kidneys

PEOPLE are encouraged to get regular kidney health checks with their doctors as part of Kidney Health Week 2010.
Starting on 23 May, the theme of this year’s Kidney Health Week- Are you at risk of kidney disease- is aimed at a national awareness campaign on the importance of the early detection of chronic kidney disease.
Kidney Health Australia chief executive Anne Wilson said 1.7 million Australians had some level of kidney disease without knowing.
“The three-pronged attackwill include national television advertising, billboards and the use ofsocial networking media on theinternet including YouTube andFacebook to highlight the need for people to look after their kidneys by having them checked,” Ms Wilson said.
People are at risk of chronic kidney disease if they have high blood pressure, diabetes, smoke, are obese, have a family history of chronic kidney disease, are over the age of 50 or are of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander descent.
