ABOUT 20,000 people are expected to move into Cranbourne East during the next 15 years, after the recent approval of the suburb’s master plan.
The Cranbourne East Precinct Structure Plan (PSP) will include 6600 housing lots, schools, kindergartens and retirement villages to cater for what is set to become a thriving community. About 3000 jobs are expected to be created.
Casey council has been planning the PSP with the Growth Areas Authority (GAA) for the past three years.
Planning Minister Justin Madden approved the 589 hectare PSP last week, and said most residents would be within 400 metres of at least two parks.
“The location of schools, shops and parks-and the manner in which they are connected to the rest of the community- will mean less reliance on cars for getting around,” Mr Madden said.
Casey’s director of planning and development Peter Fitchett said the council would consider a report on the PSP soon, and would discuss costs and responsibilities associated with the project.
“Within the last few weeks of planning, there had been a significant shift in liabilities across to council. These costs had typically been applied to the development industry to pick up,” Mr Fitchett said.
