Don’t skip the giving

By Bridget Brady
A DESIRE to give back to the community has inspired a Jim’s Skip Bins franchisor to provide free services to six charities this month.
Jim’s Skip Bins will provide the charities with skips for the whole month of May, picking up their rubbish and replacing the bins when necessary.
The architect of the Jim’s Skip Bins Charity Blitz, Tom McMahon, said the month-long services would be valued at about $10,000.
The Lions Club of Narre Warren, the Berwick Salvation Army and Casey City Church are the Casey charities involved.
Mr McMahon, regional franchisor for Melbourne eastern region, said he wanted to do his bit for the community that supported his business. He said charities relied on the generosity of others.
“It’s really just a matter of giving back to the community,” he said.
“Now that I own my own business it has allowed me to do that.”
Mr McMahon said his staff were happy to donate their time to carry out the extra work for the not-for-profit organisations.
“We’re all passionate about it. All of the guys have come on board and said what a great opportunity to do something. There is not one person that has said ‘I can’t be bothered’.”
Jim’s Skip Bins Charity Blitz would hopefully continue into the future to become an annual happening and include different charities, Mr McMahon said.
The business was believed to be the first to offer free skip bin services to charities in the area, Mr McMahon said.
Casey City Church senior minister Larry Sebastian said the service was “a welcome surprise” for the church that is relocating from Clyde North to Narre Warren.
“It will be a tremendous help for us,” Pastor Sebastian said.
The other charities to receive the free service are Wesley Mission, Personal Health and Mental Services (PHAM) in Rowville and the Knox Community Centre.
