The new rails, which will be rolled out across 25 regional and rural Victorian racetracks during the next 13 months, have been designed to significantly improve jockey and horse safety.
Cranbourne Turf Club chief executive Neil Bainbridge said the plastic rails, as opposed to aluminium, improved safety and were easy to move.
“It is a very good outcome for clubs and their staff, as well as being an outstanding outcome for jockey and horse safety,” Mr Bainbridge said.
Mordialloc plumber Dan Mawby invented the new MawSafe plastic rails, which have already been installed at Flemington and Caulfield.
Shaun Kelly from Racing Victoria said the new rails were a key initiative for jockey and horse safety.
“We were delighted to see the plastic rail debut at Cranbourne on Sunday and look forward to erecting it at numerous racetracks across the state over the next year,” Mr Kelly said.
