Go run, just for fun

CRANBOURNE’S superbike star Wayne Maxwell will send runners and walkers on their way this weekend when he starts the inaugural Bendigo Bank Take on the Track fun run.
Organisers of the fun run, at the Cranbourne Racecourse this Sunday, said the event was an opportunity for friends and family to get together and enjoy some exercise.
Money raised from the event will be shared among local organisations and charities including the Balla Balla Community Centre, Cranbourne Community House, Merinda Park Learning and Community Centre and the Cranbourne YMCA Open Doors Appeal.
Casey council is among the sponsors and mayor Lorraine Wrefrod said there would be several activities at the racecourse for families including a jumping castle, animal farm and face painting.
“Come along, have some fun getting fit and support the local organisations that will benefit from the great community spirit that is on display in Casey,” Councillor Wreford said.
One of the key themes in the council’s Cranbourne Community Plan is to develop activities and festivals, and organisers say there has never been a fun run in the town before.
Participants can register for the 3km or 5km walk or a 5km or 10km run in junior, open and over-50s categories.
Coast is $30 for adults, $20 juniors and $60 for families. Groups can register for a discounted rate at $20 a person for five adults in the open or over 50s category, or $10 a person for five juniors.
Participants can register by 8.30am on the day and the first 200 to register will get a free fun run T-shirt. The event starts at 9am on 21 March.
