THE Cranbourne Greyhound Racing Club has been “all in” the Tricodes race meeting from day one eight years ago.
CEO Tony Wright said the greyhound club was really happy to be a part of the unique racing event on Sunday 28 March where the turf, harness and greyhound clubs come together for a huge day of racing.
“It is a unique event to have all three codes racing on the same day, certainly in Australia and probably in the world,” Wright said.
The feature race for the greyhounds’ fans will be the $8000 City of Casey Victoria Cup. The 699-metre distance race is expected to attract a competitive field of dogs.
“We program the Victoria Cup to make sure we have a major event on the day,” Wright said.
“It is great to have the City of Casey on board to sponsor the day as a family race day.”
The three codes race on their own surface and a greyhound event takes place every 45 minutes.
“The only difference is we have a bit of extra time so we will have two kennellings so the dogs aren’t locked up all day.” Wright said.
“The meeting always works really well and we have been fortunate the day always runs very smoothly with all 24 races going off on time.”
Wright said punters could also expect extra competition in the RapidVite race heats held as part of the greyhound races on the day.
“We normally run the final at Sandown but because of the track work we will have a night race meeting at Cranbourne the following weekend,” he said.
“It will be full city prize money so we are expecting some really good racers with some good dogs in the Tricode heats on Sunday. It gives them a chance to run in the lower grades for better prize money.”
