Group makes a splash at Casey RACE

CRANBOURNE’S premier leisure and aquatic centre last week extended its reach to disability groups during an open day.
YMCA’S Casey RACE hosted a Community Support Group and Carer open day for disability groups and individuals within disadvantaged communities to take advantage of the state-of-the-art facilities at the centre.
A group of 16 from Yooralla First Base in Drouin were among those to take part in the event.
Disability support worker Peter Fuchs said the open day was a great idea and his group would definitely be back.
“The wet areas are well designed for our group in that we can maintain supervision and keep the group together. They all absolutely loved the experience, too,” Mr Fuchs said.
Outlook members from across Casey and Cardinia also attended.
Casey RACE YMCA manager Mark Arneil conducted tours for the groups and said it was a great opportunity for people with disabilities and their carers to explain their desires and give feedback.
“Casey RACE is set up perfectly for these groups and individuals and the smiles on the faces of the group members on the day was the best advertisement for what we are doing that we could ever want,” Mr Arneil said.
