Watch call for birds

By Bridget Brady
AN ANIMAL rescuer has asked people to keep their eyes peeled for any hazards to water birds in the coastal villages.
Nigel Williamson from Nigel’s Animal Rescue in Devon Meadows said he had been called out to a few jobs recently where he found birds had been caught in fishing line or injured by other hazards.
“Be aware so we can help them,” Mr Williamson said.
A pelican could not be saved in Williamstown recently after Mr Williamson found fishing line wrapped around its wing.
“It had been there a length of time and infection had set in so we could not save it.”
Mr Williamson asked anyone fishing or enjoying a picnic by water to be aware of any dangers to water birds and report instances such as when a bird had a limp or injured wing.
