Great goodwill – Some of the traders at Lynbrook Village who donated goods for a man run over

By Bridget Brady
GOODWILL is alive and well in Lynbrook.
Traders in Lynbrook Village have rallied to donate goods to show their support for a local man who was seriously injured on 21 January when he was run over by his own car.
On hearing that a man who stole his car at the village had run over the victim, a Lynbrook woman dropped into businesses in the village and collected donations for the victim’s family as the man recovers.
The woman who did not know the man and did not want to be named said she felt the urge to help out.
Numerous traders jumped on board, and the woman delivered a bunch of flowers and a hamper of goodies to the family last week.
“We’re all thinking of him because it happened right on our doorstep. It could have been anyone,” the woman said.
“The response was terrific.”
The owner of Lynbrook Village News and Lotto, Aki Georgiou, said he was happy to contribute a donation.
“We know him. He is a regular customer here. It’s just a bit of a shock when that sort of thing happens and worse still to happen to someone that you know,” Mr Georgiou said.
Linden’s Fresh Meat and Poultry manager Joe O’Connor donated a few meat trays for the family.
Mr O’Connor said Lynbrook Village was a quiet shopping centre so the incident came as a shock to traders.
Another trader said it was a “beautiful” gesture for the woman to organise the donations.
Police charged a 27-year-old Dandenong man with attempted murder, conduct endangering life and theft of a motor vehicle.
