By Bridget Brady
SEVEN months after nearly losing his life, Cam Sinclair is back on the bike and has his sights set on wowing crowds once again with his trademark double back-flip.
The Cranbourne-based freestyle motocross star says he is almost back to 100 per cent fitness after a near-fatal fall during competition in Madrid last year.
Sinclair had emergency surgery for a severely lacerated liver, head injuries, fractures to his cheek and right shoulder and damage to his lungs and wind pipe after he under-rotated the back flip in July.
He suffered memory loss after the fall and while Sinclair said he still couldn’t recall the accident, his memory had improved now.
After intense rehab sessions, Sinclair has been on his bike for the past two months and said he hoped to compete in a Crusty Demons tour that starts in Australia next month.
“I’m back training now and it’s all been good,” he said.
“The accident in Madrid has only made me stronger and more determined to achieve my goals. I actually feel like my tricks are bigger and better than they were before the crash.”
Sinclair said his fall would not deter him from attempting the double back-flip again, which only a few people have ever landed.
“It’s going to be scary doing it the first couple of times, but I’ll get used to it.
“I have no doubt that I can land the double back-flip again. I have watched the footage from Madrid over and over again, I know what went wrong. I just can’t wait to start working on them again in the foam pit and take it to dirt soon. It’s just something I have to do.”
Sinclair said he knew he was back to the life of a motocross star because his friends and family had started to worry about his safety again.
“They’ve been telling me they’re scared again now I’m back doing what I was doing.
My fiancé said she doesn’t want to come and watch me, but she’s going to have to get used to that,” he laughed.
