CRANBOURNE resident Emma Stephens will be joined by her family for the first time to make a brave change for the World’s Greatest Shave.
This year Emma will colour her hair to help raise money for The Leukaemia Foundation.
Emma said her whole family had decided to participate alongside her.
“I’m colouring my hair, my husband is shaving, my eldest son is colouring and my youngest son is shaving,” Emma said.
Emma said she was personally affected by leukaemia when her youngest nephew was diagnosed with it last year.
“My nephew lives in the UK and because we live so far away, at times we can feel helpless,” she said.
“This is our way of doing our bit to hopefully find a cure to help him and other kids like him.”
In 2010, about 2480 Victorians are projected to be diagnosed with leukaemia, lymphoma, myeloma or a related blood disorder. Blood cancer is expected to be the second biggest cancer killer in Australia.
The Leukaemia Foundation is calling on the community to register for World’s Greatest Shave or sponsor someone who is participating. The money raised will be used to fund cutting-edge research into treatments and cures for leukaemia, lymphoma and myeloma. It will also fund support services for blood cancer patients and families.
The World’s Greatest Shave is from 11 to 13 March.
