Saddle up, the rodeo’s in town

By Bridget Brady
THREE current Australian rodeo champions will saddle up at the Cranbourne Rodeo this month.
Cranbourne is home to Victoria’s biggest rodeo and has a superb reputation among cowboys, organisers say.
Announcer at the event Russell Green said this year’s event on 30 January will be action-packed from start to finish.
The event will include a full line up of rodeo events as well as live music and dirt bike riding.
Mr Green said recently announced national saddle bronco champion Brad Pierce, bull riding champion Ryce Angland and bare back champion Lee Bowker will compete in the rodeo.
“It is highly regarded by most cowboys and cowgirls as one of the main feature events for the year,” Mr Green said.
The Cranbourne Rodeo was a points championship awarded rodeo and had the highest amount of prize money of any rode in the state, which ensured quality competitors entered the event, Mr Green said.
The event is organised by local Shawn Mathrick, who was a former Victorian champion.
“Shawn spares no expense to see that the viewing is spot on. It’s a fantastic venue and a great family event,” Mr Green said.
Last year the event was held during two days, but will just be held on the day and night of 30 January this year. It is held at 1450 Ballarto Road in Clyde. Gates open at 4.30pm and the rode starts at 6.30pm.
Tickets cost $20 for adults, $50 for family and $10 for pensioners and children.
