Dux’s success secret

By Bridget Brady
DEVELOPING good study habits early on in his secondary schooling helped the dux of Hampton Park Secondary College achieve his goals.
Vivek Kumaresan, 18, completed Year 12 with an ENTER score of 99.2 last year, and said his results were not a reflection of just one year’s work.
“I started my study habits from a young age. That was really useful,” he said.
The Hampton Park resident hopes to study Commerce and Economics at Monash University at Clayton this year.
“It was a busy year looking back on it but when I was doing it I was just going with the flow and trying to manage my time effectively,” Vivek said.
Enjoying a social game of cricket in the backyard was an important way to take his mind of study and provide some balance to his year, Vivek said.
Vivek and his parents arrived in Australia when he was nine years old from India, where school life was stricter than in Australia, Vivek said.
“They wanted a better life and more opportunity.”
Vivek said his parents provided great support throughout his final year of school, where he studied English, specialist maths, maths methods, business management, physics and accounting.
“I thought I was self-motivated and tried to make my parents proud of what they’ve done for me.”
