Station upgrade

A $6.7 MILLION upgrade to Cranbourne’s terminal station has been completed to cope with growing electricity demands in Casey.
Electricity distributor SP AusNet installed a third electricity transformer at the Cranbourne Terminal Station to ensure reliability to the rapidly growing City of Casey area after the existing transformers were nearing their maximum capacity during peak demand periods.
SP AusNet spokesman Sean Sampson said more that 110,000 customers would benefit from the upgrade project.
“Electricity demand and consumption for the City of Casey, of which Cranbourne is a part, has grown consistently over the previous years,” Mr Sampson said.
“Forecasts for future electricity demand in the City of Casey meant that an upgrade to the Cranbourne Terminal Station was needed to guard against network failures due to overloading.”
The transformer installation was completed with minimal impact on the local community, SP AusNet said.
The upgrade at Cranbourne was part of a larger design project to improve electricity reliability in Melbourne’s outer suburbs. A $14 million investment is being made in Narre Warren with the construction of a new electricity zone sub station and a new $18 million electricity zone sub station recently completed in Officer.
