LYNBROOK Primary School students have used their creative flair to come up with the banner for the newly chartered Lions Club of Lynbrook.
Lions Club secretary Cassie Hicks came up with the idea for the students to take part in a competition to design the club’s traditional bannerette and club badge.
Each student at the school from Grade1 to Grade 6 was asked to design a banner and badge that would be themed on the environment and Lions Club International.
The Lions Club of Lynbrook believed it was the first time primary school students had designed a banner and badge for a Lions Club.
Members of the Lions Club of Lynbrook visited the school in December and presented awards to each of the grade winners and the overall winners.
The winner of the badge competition was Zoe Bidois and Madison Foster won for her bannerette design. Both students received framed versions of their original designs.
Lions Club of Lynbrook president Ossie Medcraft said the banners and badges would soon be seen around the world, as Lions International would hold an international convention in Sydney in June.
School principal Russell Gascoyne and art teacher Caroline Verity, who co-ordinated the students’ entries, were also presented with banners and badges.
Given the school’s pro-active support for the deaf community, the club has adopted the Lions Hearing Dog Project as its major project for 2009-10. The project aims to improve the quality of life for hearing impaired members of the community by providing them with a companion hearing dog.
